【Practical training has been completed.】Practical training at JAEA Horonobe Underground Research Center and Hokkaido Science and Horonobe Research Institute for the Subsurface Environment in FY2023

DurationAug. 6, 2023 to Aug. 8, 2023
ApplicationsClosed

Purpose and Outline

The purpose of this tour is to deepen understanding of research and development on geological disposal of high-level radioactive waste by experiencing some aspects of research and development in underground facilities.

At the Horonobe Underground Research Center of the Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA) in Horonobe, Hokkaido, participants will visit facilities related to geological disposal. The participants will also have hands-on training in the measurement and simple analysis of groundwater physico-chemical parameters and core observation to understand excavation damage zones. In addition, participants will exchange opinions with staff members of the Center.
At the Horonobe Research Institute for the Subsurface Environment, also located in Horonobe, participants will learn about the current status of research on microorganisms, groundwater, and sedimentary rocks conducted at the institute.

Based on the results of these studies, students will discuss in small groups.
